During a critical phase of Fairphone’s webshop migration from Magento 2 to Odoo Commerce, I joined the project to strengthen frontend development capacity and help meet a delayed go-live timeline. With no dedicated frontend developer in place, I took ownership of key UI components and supported the migration team in delivering a stable, production-ready platform.
Most of my work focused on picking up existing designs and partially implemented features and getting them working reliably within Odoo’s frontend system. This meant dealing with platform constraints while still matching the expected look and behaviour of the previous Magento setup.
Key Contributions
- Took ownership of the frontend during the migration phase, working through existing code and unfinished components to get them production-ready.
- Built and refined core parts of the webshop, including checkout, product configurator, and login/account flows.
- Worked with Odoo’s templating system (QWeb) to implement and adjust components in a way that stayed maintainable.
- Fixed blocking frontend issues that were slowing down progress and helped keep the team moving toward launch.
- Coordinated closely with backend developers and designers to make sure implementations matched both technical and visual expectations.
Outcome
My involvement helped move the new Odoo Commerce platform closer to launch during a difficult stage of the migration. By taking over frontend work and resolving blocking issues, I reduced delays on the UI side and helped give the team a more stable foundation to continue building on after release.
